Troubleshooting
Symptom, cause, fix. Grouped by who is asking.
Voting
My code says it does not work
Four reasons, in order of likelihood.
- It has been used. A code is spent the moment a ballot is written with it. If you voted, you voted.
- The round has closed. A code only works while its round is open.
- It was revoked. If a sheet of codes went astray, the club can revoke the unused ones and issue fresh — ask for a new one.
- It is a paper slip number, not a code. The number on a printed slip is deliberately not redeemable online. Write on the slip and hand it back.
I mistyped the code
You almost certainly did not need to worry. The code alphabet has no I, L, O or U in it precisely so there is nothing to confuse with 1 or 0, and typing one for the other still works. Dashes and spaces are ignored.
The QR square will not scan
Type the address printed underneath it instead — that is exactly why it is printed there. If it is a photocopy of a photocopy, ask for a fresh sheet; the codes are cheap to reissue.
I signed in but I'm not on the panel
You signed in with a different email address from the one the invitation was sent to. An invitation is only claimable by somebody who has confirmed that address, which is what stops an invitation sent to the wrong address being picked up by whoever receives it.
Sign out, sign in with the invited address, and the invitation is claimed automatically. If the club invited the wrong address, ask them to invite the right one.
I voted but the club says I haven't
Check you are looking at the right round, and the right award — a club running several teams has several. If you submitted while the round was open, your ballot is in; the participation grid is built from the ballots themselves rather than from anything separate.
I want to change my vote
You can, until the round closes: go back into the round and submit again. The last version before the deadline is the one that counts.
After it closes you cannot. Ask whoever runs the award — they can grant a late vote for a closed round, and the audit log will record that they did.
I never got the invitation email
Check spam. Then ask the club to resend it. If the club's site has no email configured, invitations are not sent at all — the club will have to send you the link another way.
The sign-in code did not arrive
Give it a minute, then look in spam or junk. That is where it goes if it goes anywhere, and it is the answer most of the time.
If it is not there, check the address on the "Check your email" page. It is shown in full, and a typo in it is the second most common cause. Use Use a different address to start again.
If the address is right and nothing has arrived after a few minutes, press Send another code. If the page then says a lot of sign-in attempts have been made, wait a few minutes rather than pressing again — and sign in with Google in the meantime if you have that option, which is not affected.
A code that arrives after you have asked for a second one may already be dead. Use the newest email.
The sign-in link says it has expired
Codes and links are only good for a few minutes, on purpose. Go back to the sign-in page and ask for a new one — there is no limit worth worrying about on doing that once or twice.
I clicked the link on my phone and it did not work
That is the link working as intended rather than failing.
The link only signs you in in the browser that asked for it. Ask for a code on the clubhouse laptop and the link in that email is good on that laptop and nowhere else. Opened on your phone, it has nothing to work with, and you get a message saying so.
Two ways past it, and the second is usually easier:
- Open the email on the device you started from.
- Type the code from the same email into the device you started from. The code has no such restriction — that is what it is for.
The same thing explains why a link sometimes appears to have been used before you touched it: a work or school mail system that scans links for safety follows every link in every message, including this one. The code is unaffected by that too.
The code page has forgotten which address I used
It only remembers for about fifteen minutes, and only in the browser you started in. If you left it longer than that, or switched browser, it sends you back to the sign-in page to start again. Nothing is wrong and nothing was lost.
I signed in with a code and got an email saying so
That is meant to happen. Every time somebody gets in by typing a code, a short notice goes to that address, so that if it was not you, you find out within seconds rather than never.
Clicking the link in the same email does not send one, and does not need to: that link only works in the browser that asked for it, so a copy of the message in somebody else's hands is no use to them.
If it was not you, whoever did it can read your mailbox. Change your email password first — nothing this app can do helps while somebody else is reading the codes it sends. The notice itself carries nothing anybody can sign in with.
Running an award
I cannot change the scoring
Correct, and deliberate: the scoring is frozen by the database the moment the first ballot exists. Changing it would restate votes already cast.
If nobody has voted yet, it is still editable. If somebody has, the honest options are to carry on, or to delete the award and start again — which throws away the ballots, because that is what changing the rules after voting means.
A round will not open
A round is upcoming until its opening time passes. If it has no voting window at all it stays upcoming until you open it by hand — that is what Open voting now is for.
If you set a window and it still looks wrong, check the club clock on the fixtures page. Every deadline is stored as an exact moment and shown in that zone, so a zone set to the wrong place moves every deadline at once.
A round closed when I did not expect it to
Its closing time passed. Rounds close themselves; there is no scheduler and nothing to have failed. Check the window on the fixtures page.
You can reopen a closed round. It is recorded in the audit log.
I cannot see the count
Seeing the running tally is a separate permission from administering the award. Being an admin is deliberately not enough.
Somebody with admin rights ticks Can view tally for you on the voting panel page. Every subsequent look is recorded.
If you are the only admin and nobody has tally access, you can grant it to yourself — and that grant is in the audit log too, which is the point.
I cannot finish the season
The award has to be active rather than still in setup. Activate it first.
I cannot publish the award
Only a finished award can be published. Finish the season first — and note that finishing cannot be undone.
The app will not put a running count on a public page and cannot be made to, including by writing to the API directly.
The public page says not found
Three things have to be true: the club has a page address set, the address in the URL matches it, and the club has something to show — either a published finished award, or an honour board typed in.
A brand-new club with neither will 404. Type in the honour board and the page exists immediately.
The pasted fixture list came out wrong
The preview shows exactly what will be added, so fix it before you press the button — edit the text and the list follows along.
Common causes:
- Dates are read day-first. 04/05 is the fourth of May.
- A date with no year takes its year from the award's season. If the season is blank, fill it in and re-paste.
- Lines that are not fixtures are dropped. A line needs a date, a round number, a "v", or enough columns to have come out of a spreadsheet. If you pasted a whole email, the covering sentences will be missing — which is intended.
- A bare list of opponents with no dates is read as fixtures only if nothing else in the paste looks like one.
If a fixture is subtly wrong, edit that round directly rather than re-pasting: a round you have already set up is never overwritten by an import.
The pasted fixture list doubled my rounds
It should not. Empty rounds fill first and only the surplus is added to the end, and a fixture against the same opponent on the same day as one already on the list is skipped.
Where it can double is a list with no dates on it pasted twice: with no date there is nothing to tell two meetings against the same opponent apart, and clubs really do play most opponents twice. Delete the extra rounds.
The roster read a name wrong
Fix the text in the box and watch the preview follow; nothing is saved until you press the button. If it is already saved, edit the player.
Two players have the same name
Give each player a club on the roster and every screen names them "J. Kelly (Peel)". That is what the club field is for, and it is what makes a league award workable.
A player has left the club
Make them inactive. They come off future ballots and their votes stay counted, which is right — the rounds they polled in already happened.
Use erase only when somebody must be removed entirely, for safeguarding or at their request. It blanks the name and squad number permanently and cannot be undone.
Count night
The live count will not start
A round is still open. The app refuses to go live while one is, because a room watching a count that could still change is not watching a count. Close the outstanding rounds.
Followers are seeing the wrong thing
They cannot see past the step you are on — that is enforced, not a convention. If they are seeing less than you expect, you have not advanced the screen; if they are seeing nothing, check they have the whole link — the code on the end of it is ten characters — and that the live count has not been ended.
The projector will not work
Print the count that afternoon, before the evening. Every browser makes a PDF, and a printed count survives a laptop that will not talk to a television.
The winner card will not load
It needs tally access, like every other view of the count — the app should never be what leaks the winner before the club is ready. It also is not previewed anywhere on purpose: rendering it reads the ballots, which writes an audit entry, and an image that loaded itself would fill the log with views nobody performed.
The winner card has no QR square on it
The square links to the page explaining how the award was counted, and that page does not exist until the award is published. Publish it and download the card again.
The result
The winner is not top of the list
Your club has a minimum-games rule, and the person at the top of the vote count did not meet it. The rule never changes anybody's vote count — only who the trophy can go to — and the page says so, and still shows the full count. That is deliberate: publishing a trophy without the votes behind it would be the club quietly editing its own record.
The totals are not whole numbers
Your club has weighted ballots — somebody's vote counts for more or less than one, by the club's own rules. Every page showing a weighted result says so, because presenting it as a plain count of votes would be misdescribing the rule.
Two players tied
Whichever your club chose at setup: they share the award, or a countback decides it. The award's own How the count works page says which — it is linked from the club's public page beside the award.
Somebody disputes the result
Send them the award's How the count works page, linked from the club's public page beside the award and carried on the winner card as a QR square. It states the scoring, who voted, the minimum-games rule, and the tie-break — all of it set before the season started.
If the dispute is about who saw what, the award's admins can read the audit log: it records every tally view, every reopened round, every ballot set aside and every late vote granted.
